REVIEW YYYYY

Beautiful Creatures is a Gothic love story of epic proportions set in a small southern town. A tale rich with romance and secrets and where some loves are cursed.

This story focuses on Ethan, an ordinary teen that has always wanted to escape the confines of his small minded and hopelessly backward town of Gatlin. A yearning so strong that he could not think of anything else until some haunting dreams completely change the course of his destiny. A beautiful girl crying out for him while slipping through his fingers and the heart wrenching loss that comes with that knowledge. The only thing that remains is her unique scent. What better way to begin his sophomore year of high school?

In enters Lena Duchannes a new student to Jackson High and Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her. Unfortunately in a town like Gatlin she is quickly the topic for gossip especially when she resides in the town's most infamous mansion, niece to the an eccentric recluse. Despite all the warnings from his loved ones and friends, Ethan pursues Lena because he is determined to find out what this connection is between them. What ensues is a slow building love story, full of romantic tension that reveals a bigger, more engaging plot filled with nail biting intrigue and mystery.

I could go on and on about this wonderfully engaging book but to do so would reveal too much. You need to experience this well paced story as it was intended, page by engrossing page. Allowing you to witness the compelling journey that Ethan and Lena embark on and you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful Creatures is richly descriptive and showcases some of the most memorably eccentric characters that you will ever encounter on paper. Don't let the size of this novel dissuade you from reading it, for not a paragraph, sentence or word can be omitted from it's pages. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have written an epic novel that should grace every one's library. An incredible debut of mesmerizing story telling that will leave you in breathless anticipation for more. I already cannot wait for it's sequel.

I want to read this so badly! You pointed out a couple of things I hadn't heard before about the pacing. I love it when authors take their time to really create a story.

This book sounds purely awesome. It makes it better if it's 500+ pages! Read the first chapter excerpt and I loved it. I preordered the paperback that's coming out on February 2010 (me a cheapo but all the better to buy more books, right?) I just can't wait to read it since there's so many good reviews esp. popping up. Thanks for the review!

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
