Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Annabel Greene seemingly had everything: cool friends, close family, good grades, and a part-time modeling career in town. But it all came crashing down, and Annabel has spent the summer in shaky, self-imposed exile. She finds herself dreading the new school term and facing, well, everyone again. The last thing she wants to do is revisit old friendships while the losses are painful, the secrets behind the rifts are almost unbearable. Her solid family seems fragile, too. What happened to cause the stiff silences and palpable resentments between her two older sisters? Why is no one in her loving but determinedly cheerful family talking about her middle sister's eating disorder? Annabel's devastating secret is revealed in bits and snatches, as readers see her go to amazing lengths to avoid confrontation. Caught between wanting to protect her family and her own struggles to face a devastating experience, Annabel finds comfort in an unlikely friendship with the school's most notorious loner. Owen has his own issues with anger, but has learned to control it and helps her realize the dangers of holding in her emotions.

Girls by Tucker Shaw (ARC)
Pub Date: April 1, 2009

Meet Mary: She’s beautiful, and her ski-star boyfriend is cheating on her.
Meet Crystal: She’s a townie, and she’s cheating with Mary’s boyfriend.
Meet Sylvia: She’s nasty, and she’s got something up her Prada-designed sleeve.
Meet Amber: She’s a flake, she’s the barista at the hottest coffee shop in Aspen, and she serves up gossip even hotter than grande skim lattes.
Meet Peggy: She’s Mary’s best friend, and she has no idea how to cope with all these girls.

A modern retelling of the classic play The Women (which featured not one male in the cast), The Girls is a quick-witted, stylish comedy about friendship, love, and most important, gossip! An elite Aspen prep school sets the stage for jealousy and intrigue as the lives of many girls tangle into a wickedly fun mess (in which no boys ever appear).

Waiting on Wednesday.... Never Cry Werewolf

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

I have seen Never Cry Werewolf on several blogs and after reading the synopsis I knew it was something that I would read. I went to Heather Davis' website and just fell in love with her other not yet published YA novel The Clearing. She will be an author to watch out for :)

"Moonlight can totally change your life.
And it all starts so simply.
You. Him. The moon. You’re toast."

Okay, so maybe Shelby has made a few mistakes with boys lately (how was she supposed to know Wes had “borrowed” that Porsche?). But her step-mother totally overreacts when she catches Shelby in a post-curfew kiss with a hot senior. Suddenly Shelby’s summer plans are on the shelf, and she’s being packed off to brat camp. It’s good-bye, prom dress; hello, hiking boots.

Things start looking up, though, when Shelby meets fellow camper (and son of a rock star) Austin Bridges, III. But soon she realizes there’s more to Austin than crush material—his family has a dark secret, and he wants Shelby’s help guarding it. Shelby knows that she really shouldn’t be getting tangled up with another bad boy…but who is she to turn her back on a guy in need, especially such a good looking one? One thing’s for sure, that pesky full moon is about to get her into trouble all over again.

New Moon....The Twilight saga continues

Hello *waves* from vacation land. I am packing and getting everything ready for my Twilight adventure this weekend. I was checking my email and a dear friend sends me this link.

MTV just posted the new logo for New Moon. As I have stated in my previous post, the Twilight series has a special place in my heart so I will always pimp it. Toodles

On Vacation TWILIGHT CONVENTION

Hello Everyone. I just wanted to announce that I will be out due to my attendance at the TWI*TOUR convention in San Francisco. I am not saying this to gloat (ok, maybe a tiny bit), but to give everyone a heads up.

Why? I will have a Twilight contest upon my retun to give away some shwag I happen to pick up and maybe an autograph :) More information will be given soon. The reason for my contest is simple. Twilight is the book that re-introduced me to YA novels and if it were not for that book I would not be here now. So, everyone have a good weekend and wish me luck.

This week my choice is Immortal by Gillain Shields. The moment I saw this book blurb, I was hooked. It sounds very romantic and mysterious.

Immortal by Gillian Shields
Due: August 4, 2009

Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies, housed in a Gothic mansion on the bleak northern moors, is elite, expensive, and unwelcoming. When Evie Johnson is torn away from her home by the sea to become the newest scholarship student, she is more isolated than she could have dreamed. Strict teachers, snobbish students, and the oppressive atmosphere of Wyldcliffe leave Evie drowning in loneliness.

Evie's only lifeline is Sebastian, a rebellious, mocking, dangerously attractive young man she meets by chance. As Evie's feelings for Sebastian grow with each secret meeting, she starts to fear that he is hiding something about his past. And she is haunted by glimpses of a strange, ghostly girl—a girl who is so eerily like Evie, she could be a sister. Evie is slowly drawn into a tangled web of past and present that she cannot control. And as the extraordinary, elemental forces of Wyldcliffe rise up like the mighty sea, Evie is faced with an astounding truth about Sebastian, and her own incredible fate.

Gillian Shields's electrifying tale will dazzle readers with suspense, mysticism, and romance.

Review: The Season by Sarah MacLean

The Season by Sarah Maclean
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Orchard Books (March 1, 2009) OUT NOW!!

Book Blurb:

Seventeen year old Lady Alexandra is strong-willed and sharp-tongued -- in a house full of older brothers and their friends, she had to learn to hold her own. Not the best makings for an aristocratic lady in Regency London. Yet her mother still dreams of marrying Alex off to someone safe, respectable, and wealthy. But between ball gown fittings, dances, and dinner parties, Alex, along with her two best friends, Ella and Vivi, manages to get herself into what may be her biggest scrape yet.

My Review:
This charming story begins with our heroine Alexandra Strafford, an intelligent and head strong young lady who is reluctantly embarking on her first season into society. Her feelings are mirrored by her two dear friends Ella and Vivi, young women that are of the same caliber and wit as Alex, whom would rather stay home, than fend of the TON in search of a husband.

That is, until her childhood friend Gavin comes back into her life. He is the newly titled Earl of Blackmoor. A title inherited after a mysterious accident took his father's life. Or was it an accident? Gavin has his suspicions and Alexandra and her friends are more than willing to help uncover the mystery. But in the process of uncovering the truth, despite her opposition to marriage, Alex finds that she is embroiled in a bigger mystery of the heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed the exchanges between Alex, Vivi and Ella. The wit and vivaciousness of these characters had me in stitches. I was also left wanting for more of Gavin and Alex and am ever hopeful of a sequel. Sarah MacLean surely knows how to keep one on tender hooks, clamouring for more.

The Season is a stylishly mixed story full of intrigue, dances, history, danger and breath taking romance all brilliantly set among the backdrop of regency England. This is a perfect (for all ages), light hearted story to sit down with a pot of tea, it will leave you smiling and wanting for more.

How Do I Love Thee? Contest

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
Elizabeth Barrett Browning's sonnet #43 from the Portuguese is one of my favorite poems. It always makes my heart ache when I read it. What can I say, I am sucker for love. Lately I have been reading some novels that have seriously made me shed the waterworks, but not because of the romantic story line. I have gone thru tissue boxes because I am not getting my HEA (happily ever after) and I am not pleased. What does a girl have to do to get a happy story?

These economic times have been hard, work can be a dread although a necessity, relationships can falter, and my pants don't fit me anymore... life can suck. So, I would love to pick up a book, not a series, a book that would give me the little happiness that I am yearning for. Is anybody up for the challenge? I would like someone to tell me what is their favorite romantic, happily ever after, one book, love story, and tell me why they like it.

I believe that one good turn deserves another, so I have something to give in return. I am giving away an ARC of Destroy All Cars by Blake Nelson, author of Girl and Paranoid Park. This book is due out in the stores on May 1, 2009

Destroy All Cars
James Hoff likes to rant against America's consumerist culture. He also likes to rant against his ex-girlfriend, Sadie, who he feels isn't doing enough to change the world. But just like he can't avoid buying things, he also can't avoid Sadie for long. This is a fantastic, funny, sexy, cool masterpiece from one of the best YA writers at work today, an anti-consumerist love story that's all about idealism, in both James's relationship with the world and his relationships with the people around him.

Interested? if yes, then...
1) Respond to my post with your favorite HEA read and let me know why you love it and why I should read it.
2) Follow me, and if you already are then just say so.

See, it is simple easy peasy. The contest is open to everyone and I will announce the winner on Tuesday, February 17th.

Waiting on Wednesday.....My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent

I have been pining away for this book ever since it was mentioned last year at RT. I have been keeping my ear to the ground on this new YA series written by one of my favorite paranormal authors, Rachel Vincent. I have looked all over for a cover, but have not found anything YET!!! and not much information has come out about her first YA series. I did find information from a recent interview on BBB

MY SOUL TO TAKE by Rachel Vincent
The Soul Screaming series, is about a teenage bean sidhe (banshee).

As for the premise…

Kaylee Cavanaugh is a high school junior who thinks she’s losing her mind when she’s struck by the grim certainty that someone near her is going to die—and by the irresistible urge to shriek at an ear-drum-bursting pitch in response. But as it turns out, she’s not crazy, people are dying, and Kaylee has what it takes to stop the one responsible—if she’s willing to pay the price…

My Soul to Take comes out on August 1, 2009, and My Soul to Save will hit the shelves in January, 2010.

That is all the information I have for now. As soon as I get anything else I will be sure to post it.

Vampire Challenge '09

I have pushed myself this year with my reading challenges and decided to join another one. I know it sounds crazy, but this one seems really easy. I found this posted on a blog that I found a few days ago, that is wicked good and the idea came from another blog It's All About Books

How?
The goal is to read 2+ books with vampires in 2009, that's it. It's fairly easy, I think. For some inspiration check out this post on vampires in books. To sign up, please leave a comment here with a link to your blog post.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (April 2, 2009)
Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love— music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind? Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it’s the only one that matters.
A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Evermore by Alyson Noel (Feb. 3, 2009)
Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste…

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

Sea Change by Aimee Friedman (June 1, 2009)
16-year-old Miranda Merchant is great at science...and not so great with boys. After major drama with her boyfriend and (now ex) best friend, she's happy to spend the summer on small, mysterious Selkie Island, helping her mother sort out her late grandmother's estate.

There, Miranda finds new friends and an island with a mysterious, mystical history, presenting her with facts her logical, scientific mind can't make sense of. She also meets Leo, who challenges everything she thought she knew about boys, friendship...and reality.

Is Leo hiding something? Or is he something that she never could have imagined?

The Thirteenth Child by Patricia C. Wrede (April 15, 2009)
Eff was born a thirteenth child. Her twin brother, Lan, is the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he's supposed to possess amazing talent -- and she's supposed to bring only bad things to her family and her town.
Undeterred, her family moves to the frontier, where her father will be a professor of magic at a school perilously close to the magical divide that separates settlers from the beasts of the wild.

Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (Feb 3, 2009)
Personally signed on her book tour Friday night. SQUEE!
This is the fourth book in the Mercy Thompson series. Mercy's managed to miff the vampire queen. The problem with an old vampire is that they think in layers . . . and they don't play nicely.
In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.
I had the pleasure of meeting Patricia Briggs on Friday night. She read an excerpt of her book then she opened the mic to questions and wrapped things up by signing any book that we had for her to sign. She was very friendly and had the best smile. I love it when I get to meet an author that is genuinely happy to see her fans. On the desk in front of her she had a big pile of pens of many colors then she as you approached her she asked what color pen you would like her to sign your book with. She is the best :)
So how was your week?

Author Tours 2009

I love to read, I wouldn't be here if I didn't, but what I also love to do is meet those authors that have enriched my world due to the amazing stories they have written. I have been very lucky in meeting most of those authors that I have adored, part of that luck is due to the area that I live in and the other is the spectacular book stores that I frequent. I have to admit sometimes I will travel a great distance to meet an author that I particularly like. I feel that book signings are a great opportunity to support author's you enjoy and you get to know more about the book, story and characters that you have come to admire.

So...I decided to start this post to give those that are interested a "heads up" on author tours that are coming up in 2009. If anyone has any other information to add, let me know and I will add it to the list :)

Waiting on Wednesday....... The Awakening

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

This week's choice is The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong. It is the second book in a series trilogy, the first book was The Summoning and it was remarkably good. It ended on a cliffhanger and I have been on the edge of my seat since then.

The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong
4/28/2009
Summary:
Book II in the Darkest Powers trilogy takes us deeper into a world where the supernatural intrudes on the everyday with riveting effect.
If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl – someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I’m as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment – not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a group of people who call themselves The Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I’m a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control: I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.
I’m running for my life with three of my supernatural friends – a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch – and we have to find someone who can help us gain our freedom back before The Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

Review: Evermore by Alyson Noel

EVERMORE by Alyson Noel
2/3/2009 TODAY!!

Book Blurb:

My Review:
Evermore is a story about a sixteen year old girl named Ever who gains special abilities after a near death car accident kills her immediate family thus leaving her as the sole survivor. Without many options she decides to go and live with her Aunt Sabine, her father's twin, who is a very busy lawyer thus leaving Ever very alone, or is she?....it seems that Ever's younger sister is a constant companion, even though she can be nusiance, Ever welcomes the intrusion that keeps her from being totally alone.

Solitude is what Ever constantly craves, because her "gift" makes it hard for her to have a normal social life, because knowing people’s inner thoughts takes away the mystery in life and puts Ever in a very uncomfortable position. So, she retreats to her hooded sweats and cranked up Ipod to avoid the contant voices she hears and refuses to be touched because she could then know everything about that person, and she would be overwhelmed by all of their thoughts and emotions. Until, she meets Damen, and the constant jumble of thoughts and emotions are forgotten when he’s near.

Damen becomes her succor from the storm. Yet, as gorgeous as he is, and as peaceful as she feels when they’re together, she still believes that he’s hiding something big. Something that even she and her friends Haven and Miles cannot figure out. As the truth is finally revealed to her, she will have to make some decisions, and either accept Damen and his truths or say goodbye forever.

This is the first installment of The Immortals series. Alyson Noël created a well-detailed story that makes it easy for the reader to visualize both the characters and the world around them. Evermore has a familiar theme that attracts readers, but inside this book you’ll find that the author has added some unique details that sets it apart and will surprise you. This is a young adult novel that should appeal to both teens and adults.

Trailer Tuesdays: ETERNAL

This feature is to showcase any book trailers that are out to promote a soon to be released book. I originally had this feature posted as Video Friday's but decided that this worked better.

This week I have found the official book trailer for Eternal by Cynthia Leitich Smith I have been waiting for this book to come out and this trailer is amazing. Give it a look.

ETERNAL
At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. Elevated and adopted by none other than the reigning King of the Mantle of Dracul, Miranda goes from high-school theater wannabe to glamorous royal fiend overnight.
Meanwhile, her reckless and adoring guardian angel, Zachary, demoted to human guise as the princess’s personal assistant, has his work cut out for him trying to save his girl’s soul and plan the Master’s fast-approaching Death Day gala.

Due out in stores February 10, 2009

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
