Waiting on Wednesday: INTERTWINED by Gena Showalter

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

This week's selection is Intertwined by Gena Showalter. This book was my first WOW choice last January, but now that I have the cover art to go along with it, I believe that it deserves another posting. I am a big fan of this author and have read her other YA and paranormal romance novels. Then I read the premise of her new YA book and knew that I had to have this novel...NOW...and after you read it, you will want it also.

INTERTWINED by Gena Showlater
Hardcover: 496 pages
Publisher: Harlequin (September 1, 2009)

There’s something about the new guy at Crossroads High . . .

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can time-travel.
One can raise the dead.
One can tell the future.
And one can possess another human.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now, they’re causing him all kinds of trouble.

Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he’ll change the future. Or, he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s going to die.

He’s so over it. All he wants is peace.

And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, for as long as he’s with her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks; she tries to make everyone happy. And while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her sake, he should stay away. But it’s too late. . .

Somehow, they share an inexplicable bond of friendship. A bond about to be tested by a werewolf shape-shifter who wants Mary Ann for his own and a vampire princess Aden can’t resist. Two romances, both forbidden. . . doomed. Still, the four will enter a dark underworld of intrigue and danger. . . but not everyone will come out alive. . .

WOW!!! This book sounds amazing and you can pre-order it HERE so...what are you waiting for :)

RAMPANT by Diana Peterfreund (ARC)
Hardcover: 416 pages
Publisher: HarperTeen (August 25, 2009)

Forget everything you ever knew about unicorns…
The sparkly, innocent creatures of lore are a myth. Real unicorns are venomous, man-eating monsters with huge fangs and razor-sharp horns. And they can only be killed by virgin descendants of Alexander the Great.
Fortunately, unicorns have been extinct for a hundred and fifty years.
Or not.
Astrid Llewelyn has always scoffed at her eccentric mother’s stories about killer unicorns. But when one of the monsters attacks her boyfriend in the woods – thereby ruining any chance of him taking her to prom – Astrid learns that unicorns are real and dangerous, and she has a family legacy to uphold. Her mother packs her off to Rome to train as a unicorn hunter at the ancient cloisters the hunters have used for centuries.
However, at the cloisters, all is not what is seems. Outside, the unicorns wait to attack. And within, Astrid faces other, unexpected threats: from crumbling, bone-covered walls that vibrate with a terrible power to the hidden agendas of her fellow hunters to – perhaps most dangerously of all – her growing attraction to a handsome art student… and a relationship that could jeopardize everything.
RAMPANT, a tale of killer unicorns, will be released in August of 2009 by Harper Collins.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?

City of Glass Celebration Schwag!!!

Howdie!! I am back from my book signing with Cassandra Clare and Lisa McMann and I am still in awe. It is an amazing feeling to finally meet those authors that you truly admire and respect. I have been a big fan of Cassandra Clare for a few years and I must admit I was a bit of a dork in her presence, but she is so very nice and funny that I was soon at ease. My friend and I were invited to stay and talk with them both for a bit after the signing and we happily obliged. The fact that we drove almost 7 hours to see them both got us a bit of attention :)

Along with pictures of my adventure yesterday I will also post pictures of some items that will be given away during the contest. I did have a copy of City of Glass and Wake signed by their respective authors and I made some book marks and scrabble buttons.

This was the welcoming sign at Mrs. Nelson's toy and book shop. This place was absolutely amazing. I adored being there. The staff was helpful they had the best YA selection of books.
A great YA section with many yummy new titles. This was the set up for the authors
Upon entering this sign was posted
Table set up for Cassandra Clare
Table set up for Lisa McMann
Both authors came into the room, introduced themselves then read 10 mins worth from each of their works. Lisa McMann read from WAKE and Cassandra Clare gave us a choice of either City of Glass or her new project the Infernal Devices...EVERYONE picked the Infernal Device's teaser, which was awesome.
Here are some of the items I made. Book markers and scrabble pins with the Mortal Instrument's cast.
A close up of Clary and Jace
Chatting it up with Cassandra....
I have a few more pictures to upload from my friend's camera which shows the actual signed books for the contest.

Waiting on Wednesday: Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

Going along with the City of Glass blog Celebration week (YEAY) today's post is going to be on Cassandra's prequel series to the Mortal Instruments called the INFERNAL DEVICES series.

The Clockwork Princess
vol. 1 of The Infernal Devices
coming fall 2010

The Infernal Devices takes us back one hundred and forty years to the heart of Victorian England, exploring an earlier era in the history of the Shadowhunters — a time before the Accords, when Downworlder and Shadowhunters were at each other's throats. A time when orphaned teenager Tessa discovers she isn't human after all, but a warlock, capable of changing her shape to resemble anyone she desires to be. Tessa must use her power to descend into London's supernatural Downworld, where vampires stalk the gaslit streets of London, werewolves slink in the shadowy lanes of Whitechapel, and warlocks hold masquerade balls for demons and Downworlders in opium-smoke-filled ballrooms. But living in Downworld isn't simple — Tessa has to learn to trust her natural enemies, the demon-killing Shadowhunters, if she ever wants to control her powers and find her brother. Torn between the darkly gorgeous and devoted Will, a Shadowhunter hiding a deadly secret, and the brooding Jem, whose addiction to a demon drug is slowly destroying him, Tessa must draw on all her strength to save her brother and keep herself alive in this deadly new world.

Review: Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Laurie Halse Anderson, author of Speak, Twisted, WINTERGIRLS and many others. She was such a pleasure to see, not only because she was so down to earth, but she gave a slide show presention...YUP!! A slideshow presentation, and it was totally awesome. So , that aside I am going to give my review

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

“We held hands when we walked down the gingerbread path into the forest, blood dripping from our fingers. We danced with witches and kissed monsters. We turned us into wintergirls and when she tried to leave, I pulled her back into the snow because I was afraid to be alone.”

Lia and Cassie were best friends--since they were little girls and they did everything together, sleep overs, vacations, school and as they got older they made an oath one day, a little competition, and life would never be the same....

"I swear to be the skinniest girl in school, skinnier than you."
Cassie's eyes got big. "I bet I'll be skinnier than you."
"No, don't make it a bet. Let's be skinniest together."
"Okay, but I'll be skinnier."

...fast forward a few years later and they are no longer friends. Carrie has stopped talking to Lia, months have gone by, and then one night she calls Lia 33 times. Lia, still hurt by being discarded, does not pick up the phone and the next day she finds out that bulimic Carrie has died alone, in a hotel room.

Lia tries to convince herself, her parents, her sister and her counselor that she’s okay with the death. But she’s really spiralling out of control. As a result, Lia has gone back to controlling her eating. Although, we soon realise she was never "over it" to begin with. As soon as she hits a magic weight number, then she knows she can hit an even lower one. She has become a master of disguise even though her eating habits are being watched carefully.

Cassie’s ghost haunts, her fellow Wintergirl Lia, and beckons her to come to the other side, but will she join her....Lia must decide what is it she really wants: to literally starve herself to death or rid herself of Cassie's ghost for good by rising above her eating disorder

This novel was amazing I loved how every character is so wonderfully fleshed out. Lia's loving, well-meaning parents are flawed and often say exactly the wrong thing, causing her to spiral further into anorexia's clutches; her little stepsister Emma idolizes Lia in private, but is embarrassed to see her at a soccer game; and her new friend Elijah, a lost traveler himself, is both kind and, ultimately, cruelly honest. Even Cassie's ghost is as conflicted a friend as ever. Each person here feels and behaves like an actual, complicated person.

The combination of realistic characters, atmospheric writing, and stark insight into one wounded girl makes "Wintergirls" one of the best, most compelling books a teenager could find. While this book is often difficult to read, mature readers will find it utterly engrossing and nearly impossible to put down.

Hiya!!! Ok...Lets's get this City of Glass celebration going. So, do you have an audible account? and do you want to listen to City of Glass, NOW?? Well you can if you go to audible.com right now, you will be able to download City of Glass and enjoy!!! Soooo...what are you waiting for?

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
