INTERTWINED by Gena Showalter
THANK YOU KARIN (I owe you big)
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 496 pages
Publisher: Harlequin (September 1, 2009)
There’s something about the new guy at Crossroads High . . .

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can time-travel.
One can raise the dead.
One can tell the future.
And one can possess another human.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now, they’re causing him all kinds of trouble.

Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he’ll change the future. Or, he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s going to die.

He’s so over it. All he wants is peace.

And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, for as long as he’s with her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks; she tries to make everyone happy. And while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her sake, he should stay away. But it’s too late. . .

Somehow, they share an inexplicable bond of friendship. A bond about to be tested by a werewolf shape-shifter who wants Mary Ann for his own and a vampire princess Aden can’t resist. Two romances, both forbidden. . . doomed. Still, the four will enter a dark underworld of intrigue and danger. . . but not everyone will come out alive. . .

Give up the Ghost by Megan Crewe
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 256 pages

Cass McKenna much prefers ghosts to “breathers.” Ghosts are uncomplicated and dependable. They know the dirt on everybody . . . and Cass loves dirt.
She’s on a mission to expose the dirty secrets of all of the poseurs in her school. But when the vice president of the student council discovers her secret, Cass’s whole scheme hangs in the balance. Timwants her help to contact his recently deceasedmother, but Cass is less than enthusiastic.
Kicking and screaming, Cass becomes increasingly entwined in Tim’s life. And she’s more surprised than anyone when she realizes that maybe some living people aren’t so bad if she’d only give them a chance.

Never Slow Dance With a Zombie by E. Van Lowe
Reading level: Young Adult
Paperback: 256 pages
Publisher: Tor Teen (September 1, 2009)
Principal Taft's 3 Simple Rules for Surviving a Zombie Uprising:
Rule #1: While in the halls, walk slowly and wear a vacant expression on your face. Zombies won't attack other zombies.
Rule #2: Never travel alone. Move in packs. Follow the crowd. Zombies detest blatant displays of individuality.
Rule #3: If a zombie should attack, do not run. Instead, throw raw steak at to him. Zombies love raw meat. This display of kindness will go a long way.
On the night of her middle school graduation, Margot Jean Johnson wrote a high school manifesto detailing her goals for what she was sure would be a most excellent high school career. She and her best friend, Sybil, would be popular and, most important, have boyfriends. Three years later, they haven't accomplished a thing!
Then Margot and Sybil arrive at school one day to find that most of the student body has been turned into flesh-eating zombies. When kooky Principal Taft asks the girls to coexist with the zombies until the end of the semester, they realize that this is the perfect opportunity to live out their high school dreams. All they have to do is stay alive....

That was in my mailbox this week and what is yours?

I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

I love Vampire stories, it is one of my favorite paranormal genres. Yet, it has been played out in so many different ways....UNTIL I read about this upcoming novel The TEAR COLLECTOR by Patrick Jones. It sounds soo good. I am not sure if the cover is the offical one, but it is the one posted on the author's website located HERE

THE TEAR COLLECTOR by Patrick Jones
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 272 pages
Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers (September 1, 2009)

Fans of urban fantasy should prepare for a new kind of vampire–one that feeds off of tears instead of blood. Descended from an ancient line of creatures that gain their energy from human tears, Cassandra Gray depends on human sorrow to live. Only Cass has grown tired of living this life and wants to live like a human, especially now that she's met someone worth fighting for.

Sounds good! and I want it now. I love all things Vampire and this different take on them is fresh, interesting and definitely has my attention. So, that is my WOW and what is yours?

CONTEST: PRADA and PREJUDICE

He He Helllllo!!! I have been most fortunate in getting an extra copy of PRADA & PREJUDICE by Mandy Hubbard. It is a really cute story and I am a sucker for a great pair of shoes. I know that someone will be very happy to read it and enjoy it as much as I have. So I am hosting a contest and it is really easy peasy....how easy peasy?? Well just check it out.

Here are the rules:
1) +1 if you follow me or already follow me
2) +3 post the contest on your blog or side bar
3) +5 if you tell me your most outrageous shoe story every. It can be anything from...your most expensive splurge to keeping that ratty old pair of shoes since high school. I want to hear it all and the best story, not only gets the book but a bonus prize. The runners up gets some schwag I have acquired.
4) Contest ENDS June 5th midnight and it will be mailed out on June 6th

JUST TO CLARIFY THINGS!!! THIS CONTEST IS ON A POINT SYSTEM AND IF I RECIEVE MULTIPLE ENTRIES WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF POINTS THEN I WILL USE THE RANDOM GENERATOR TO PICK THE PERSON WHO WINS, BUT IF THERE ARE SOME GREAT STORIES WHO DON'T WIN THEN I WILL ALSO SEND THEM SOME SURPRISE SHWAG!!!

So in all fairness I will share with you my beloved damsel in distress shoe story. I was with a group of friend in Las Vegas and we were all awaiting our ride to come and pick us up. It was hot, 114 degrees hot and we had had to wait for a while and I was in my beloved plasic sandals (white with a kitten heel). As the van pulled up and I got excited and tried to do my happy snoopy dance. I realized that I was stuck. I could not for the life of me move my feet. It was as if I was glued to the floor....and I WAS. As I stared down at my shoes, they had actually begun to melt. I tried to lift my shoe and it appeared as if I had copious amounts of gum stretching from the bottom of my shoe.

I could not believe it...there I was in Vegas in one of the hottest days of my life and my new shoes were ruined. Luckily one of my friends carried me from the parking lot into the car because my shoes had to stay behind stuck to asphalt. I still mourn the loss of those shoes. It was the best $1.99 I ever spent.....may they rest in melted peace

Publisher: Virtualbookworm.com Publishing, Incorporated
Pub. Date: April 2009

Love between a teenage girl and a vampire can be a beautiful thing. Then again, it can get a little ugly. Just ask Stella Crow. Stella is a clumsy but otherwise ordinary girl whose life takes a radical turn the moment she meets Edweird. Though perfect on the outside, Edweird Sullen is remarkably unrefined on the inside. He also happens to be a one hundred year old vampire, trapped in the body of a teenage boy, who has yet to finish high school. Nonetheless, Stella is unconditionally smitten with him. But not everything is rosy in this gloomiest of towns. Edweird's enemies have sworn to put a tragic end to their romance. Against all odds, the bond between Stella and Edweird is nearly strong enough for their love to survive. Most love stories between an impossibly handsome vampire and an ungainly young woman have a magical ending. This one - not so much.

SERIOUSLY!!!! Did someone just write this??? What do you think about it?

Review: If I Stay..... by Gayle Forman

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 208 pages
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile (April 2, 2009)

Synopsis:

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones. Move to New York City to pursue her true love — music — or stay with her boyfriend, family and friends

Then there is a horrible accident. And suddenly all of her choices are gone. Except for the one choice that truly matters.

My Review: YYYYY

It is a beautiful February morning as the snow begins to fall, and although it is not a blizzard it becomes enough to close the schools for the day. Mia's hip and post hippie parents decide to make it a family day and soon Mia, her parents and little brother pile into the car and head off onto a family adventure. Mia, a budding Cellist, is about to face some very important choices in her life, to stay with her family, friends and boyfriend in Oregon or travel to New York and fulfill her dream. But the day's adventure is not about future worries, today she is content with her family and their adventure while listening to Beethoven, when the car spins out of control on an icy road.....

Mia soon becomes an invisible bystander, a witness to the horrible events that are unfolding before her. From this perspective she knows that her Father and Mother are dead and younger brother, Teddy, is seriously injured. She sees her body cling to life in a nearby ICU, shuttled in and out of the operating room, all the while questioning..... is she already dead? In between these events of the present trauma she recalls the poignant moments of her life. The first time she saw the Cello and knew that it was meant for her to play, the birth of her younger brother Teddy and how he held her gaze when he came out of their mother's womb, her first kiss with her budding rock star boyfriend Adam, her infamous fight with her BFF kim and the countless moments with her beloved parents. Mia takes this all in as her memories intertwine with present events and then the unthinkable happens, adding to Mia's heartache and leaving her broken and forever changed. How can she go on....

Then she has to make the most important choice. Should she make the effort to will herself back or should she take the easy route and allow herself to die? In order to find that out, you will have to read it or wait for the movie that is set to come out in 2011.

I had to wait a couple of days to make this review, because I was so filled with emotion over this book. I laughed, I cried....this book stayed in my mind for days. Gayle Forman, wrote a compelling life afirming novel. The seem less interjection of Mia's memories intertwined with her traumatic situation were flawless. The story flowed so well with its moments of great humor, passion and insight, just like the notes played by a Cellist....humming through your soul and it leaving you breathless from the experience. If I Stay, is a heart achingly beautiful read and a true testament to the power of love, family and the choices that we make. I highly recommend reading it, but also recommend having tissues handy :)

BLOOD PROMISE by Richelle Mead
AUGUST 25, 2009 **TOO FAR AWAY**

BOUND BY LOVE, BUT SWORN TO KILL...

The rest of the world had considered Dimitri dead. And to a certain extent, he was. But I hadn't been able to forget a conversation he and I had once had. We'd both agreed that we'd rather be dead—truly dead—than walk the world as Strigoi. It was time to honor our words.

Guardian Rose Hathaway's life will never be the same.

The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters . . . Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King’s Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash’s capacity for love—and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.
Entrancing and romantic, Ash is an empowering retelling of Cinderella about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief.

I cannot wait to read this book. It sounds positively amazing.

TMI by Sarah Quigley
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 288 pages
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile; 1 edition (April 16, 2009)

Friends call Becca the Overshare Queen, but her tendency for TMI never seemed like a problem to her until she blabs about her sweet band-geek boyfriend’s sloppy kisses—and gets dumped! Realizing it may be better to resist the temptation to overshare face-to-face, Becca decides to blog anonymously about everything instead. On her blog, Too Much Information, Becca unleashes her alter ego, Bella. Bella tells it like it is . . . though perhaps with a bit more drama. After all, no one’s going to read it, right???

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 224 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin; 1 edition (May 12, 2009)

Thirteen-year-old Kyra has grown up in an isolated community without questioning the fact that her father has three wives and she has twenty brothers and sisters, with two more on the way. That is, without questioning them much---if you don’t count her secret visits to the Mobile Library on Wheels to read forbidden books, or her meetings with Joshua, the boy she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her.
But when the Prophet decrees that she must marry her sixty-year-old uncle---who already has six wives---Kyra must make a desperate choice in the face of violence and her own fears of losing her family forever.

Sliding on the Edge by C. Lee McKenzie
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 268 pages
Publisher: WestSide Books; 1st edition (April 23, 2009)

Shawna Stone, sixteen, can handle anything from a Las Vegas hustle to skipping out on the rent. Scarred inside and out, she's survived with a tough, hardened attitude. Yet she's thrown when her mother abandons her in Vegas with only a bus ticket and the name and number of a stranger to call. Now this troubled, desperate teen finds herself on a Northern California horse ranch with Kay Stone, her steely, youngish, disillusioned grandmother, who overwhelms Shawna with rules and daily barn chores. Shawna will baffle Kay with her foul mouthed anger and shrugging indifference to everything--except the maltreated horse on the ranch next door. But it's worse than even Kay suspects: Shawna's driven to cut herself by that strange voice inside her head, which at times has been her only steady companion.Kay, brittle from the loss of her marriage and her only son, struggles to keep the ranch going with only Kenny, the broken down drifter she hired, to lean on. Wondering what secrets hide behind Shawna's barricade, Kay fears that unless she somehow helps this troubled girl, she could lose her last living family member. And Kay's own secret is the very one that's kept Shawna and her mother away for all these years. As this unlikely pair struggles to co-exist, will they overcome their inner suffering to build a bridge to each other, and together find the strength to transcend the past?
I had the pleasure of meeting C. Lee this week and once she read a bit from her debut novel I was hooked. I have a little snippet posted HERE.

This unique and lovely meme was created by Karin over at Karin's Book Nook blog and here is a little synopsis of what it is all about.
"Say It Again” Saturday was created because…Sometimes when I’m reading a book there are lines that just jump out at me. They make me want to laugh, cry, or just sit and think for a minute. Sometimes the lines are just beautifully written. They are the kind of lines that you want to stop reading, find someone close by, and read the line or passage aloud to them so they can share it with you.

Sliding on the Edge by C. Lee McKenzie

"Something's wrong."

"It’s not a heart-grabbing noise like when somebody jiggles the doorknob to see if it’s locked. It’s not a bitter smell like the electrical short we had last month, when all the breakers popped. No. It’s something in the air, something like a ghost making its way through the room. And it can’t be Monster, not after last night."

Wow! just reading that again gives me goosebumps. I had the pleasure of meeting C. Lee last thursday night at the Debutante Ball held by Not Your Mother's Book Club at Book's Inc. All the debs talked about themselves and their novels but when C. Lee stood up and talked about her book I was mesmerized, transfixed... When she read the passage I just posted. I got goose bumps. I knew I had to have this book. I was not the only one, another deb author Malinda Lo of Ash, was also in the audience and she echoed my amazement over C. Lee's presence and her book.

At the moment her book is a bit difficult to come by....So, you can order it by clicking on the book cover picture. Or you can go to WestSide Books and order it HERE ...or even better you can contact your local book store and ask to have it stocked there, it's easy, just ask if they have it (make sure you write the name and book title down) and if they do have it then great. If they don't then ask them to order some copies :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
