CREATE YOUR DEBUT YA COVER

Ok I followed the Instructions and this is what my efforts came up with. So what do you think? I think it looks edgy....makes me think of what kind of story that it could be. This post reminds me of Vania's COVER A LA VANIA'S original posts from a few months ago. A post that I really enjoyed and hope that one day she will bring it back.
Now it is your turn to try it out. Just follow the directions and see what you come up with.

CREATE YOUR DEBUT YA COVER

1 – Go to “Fake Name Generator” or click http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

The name that appears is your author name.

2 – Go to “Random Word Generator” or clickhttp://www.websitestyle.com/parser/randomword.shtml

The word listed under “Random Verb” is your title.

3 – Go to “FlickrCC” or click http://flickrcc.bluemountains.net/index.php

Type your title into the search box. The first photo that contains a person is your cover.

4 – Use Photoshop, Picnik, or similar to put it all together. Be sure to crop and/or zoom in.

5 – Post it to your site along with this text.

BLURB:

Even Zombie Settlers with Super Hot Boyfriends get the Blues...

A few months ago I was a normal girl with a normal life. But that was before my power to Settle the Undead returned and someone tried to kill me with zombies.

Now I work magic and practice kicking butt while trying to find time for pom squad and my boyfriend, Ethan, and trying NOT to think about how freaky my life has become. It can be tough. Still…things could be worse…

Oh yeah, right:
1. Feral new super-strong zombies. Check.
2. Undead psychic hottie predicting a zombie apocolypse. Check.
3. Earth-shattering secrets that could land me in Settler prison for life. Check.
4. Cheerleader vs. pom squad turf war threatening the end of the half time as we know it. Check.
I’m going to need therapy (and a cookie) if I live through the week. Unfortunately I’m learning that’s not something Zombie Queens can take for granted.

Audibly Edible: GRACELING on Full Cast Audio

Today I decided to try a new feature on my blog called AUDIBLY EDIBLE. This feature is about audio books that I have listened to, enjoyed and now recommend for your listening pleasure. Also, if anyone has any recommendations then I would love to hear about them.

I have a bit of a commute which takes up alot of my time; time that I could be reading. Instead of getting all bitter betty about it I try to use my 2+ hour daily commute time wisely. When I am not chatting on the phone (via bluetooth) I listen to audiobooks, lots and lots of them. I know that many do not care for this type of media for many reasons i.e. cost, convenience or just because. But for moi I really enjoy it and sometimes I will wait for the audio version of the book or will simply re-experience a book by listening to it.

GRACELING by Kristin Cashore
FULL CAST AUDIO Audiobook 6/1/09
Audio sample HERE from audible

For my first AUDBILY EDIBLE choice I am going to suggest GRACELING by Kristin Cashore. GRACELING was a book that I read and enjoyed last year and when I found out that it was on audio I could not resist the chance to experience it again. I was overjoyed to find out that it was a FULL CAST audio production, meaning that all the characters had distinctly different voices instead of having a sole reader. All I can say is WOW! if I enjoyed the story before I love it ten fold now. The story seems so much better, richer and entertaining. A definate must listen for those that enjoy audiobooks.

Another awesome blogger GreenBeanTeenQueen also raved about GRACELING on audio, and you can check out her post HERE

Waiting on Wednesday: SLEEPLESS by Cyn Balog

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

This week's choice is soooo far away, but on my brain since I read the synopsis. I enjoyed Fairy Tale and cannot wait to read this new endevor by Cyn. July 2010 is too too far away.

Sleepless (Delacorte, July 13, 2010)

Eron De Marchelle isn’t supposed to feel a connection. He is a Sandman, a supernatural being whose purpose is to seduce human charges to sleep. While he can communicate with his charges in their dreams, he isn’t encouraged to–after all, getting too involved in one human’s life would prevent him helping his other charges get their needed rest.

But he can’t deny that he feels something for Julia.

Julia, with her fiery red hair and her sad dreams. Just weeks ago, her boyfriend died in a car accident, and Eron can tell that she feels more alone than ever. Eron was human once too, many years ago, and he remembers how it felt to lose the one he loved. Eron has always felt protective of Julia . . . but now, when she seems to need him more than ever, he can’t seem to reach her . . .

Sandmen are forbidden from communicating with humans outside their dreams. But will Eron be willing to risk everything for a chance to be with the person he loves?

This week's video choice is BALLAD from Maggie Stiefvater, it is the sequel to LAMENT. Maggie drew several hundred frames and composed the music for the trailer; the music ("Nuala") is played by her on harp, keyboard, whistle, & bodhran & and Kate Hummel on fiddle. Simply brilliant

SYNOPSIS

For Nikki Donovan, being a teenager can be hell. Literally.

As if trying to fit in at a new school and navigating the social scene isn’t enough stress for her, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands — the world that separates and protects ours from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious (and surprisingly cute) messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and that he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her growing feelings for Michael are forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew — what’s a teenage demon princess to do?

REVIEW YYYY1/2

Nikki Donovan and her mom, a romance writer, have lead a bit of a nomadic life as her mother tries to find true love and romance. Soon Nikki's mom remarries, again, and they move to Toronto. Nikki finds the change a blessing as she finally begins to fit in and she becomes best friends with the most popular girl at school and soon has a date with the most handsome boy in school that she crushes on. Life is too good, turning 16 is going to be the best birthday yet...but Nikki should have known better, a good thing can never last.

Nikki finds that turning 16 means much more than she could ever dreamed of. Nikki gets a sticky admirer named Michael; a mysterious boy that has come to take her to visit her father. HOLD UP!! She thought her father was dead? So of course she believes none of it, especially when she is told that her father is actually a Demon King of the shadowlands and she stands to inherit it very soon. Nikki truly thinks Michael is insane.....until...a frightening situation sets her emotions into overdrive and the results ensure that she will never be the same again. Bring on the tiara and the horns.

This wickedly delightful story has everything you could ever want in a book; romance, comedy, suspense with smart and engaging characters. Michelle Rowen's debut effort into the Young Adult realm is spot on brilliant and I cannot rave enough about it. I want to read more about Nikki Donovan as she navigates life being demon royalty while maintaining a curfew. Who ever said that being a princess with horns was going to be easy?

Demon Princess is a fantastic read for both teens and adults alike who wish to have a bit of adventure with a side of demon.

Please visit next month when I have a interview with the wonderful Michelle Rowen. Until then pre-order Demon Princess: Reign or Shine and Demon Princess: Reign Check in 2010

THE ESPRESSOLOGIST by Kristina Springer

Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 192 pages
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR) (October 27, 2009)

What’s your drink of choice? Is it a small pumpkin spice latte? Then you’re lots of fun and a bit sassy. Or a medium americano? You prefer simplicity in life. Or perhaps it’s a small decaf soy sugar-free hazelnut caffe latte? Some might call you a yuppie. Seventeen-year-old barista Jane Turner has this theory that you can tell a lot about a person by their regular coffee drink. She scribbles it all down in a notebook and calls it Espressology. So it’s not a totally crazy idea when Jane starts hooking up some of her friends based on their coffee orders. Like her best friend, Em, a medium hot chocolate, and Cam, a toffee nut latte. But when her boss, Derek, gets wind of Jane’s Espressology, he makes it an in-store holiday promotion, promising customers their perfect matches for the price of their favorite coffee. Things are going better than Derek could ever have hoped, so why is Jane so freaked out? Does it have anything to do with Em dating Cam? She’s the one who set them up! She should be happy for them, right?
With overtones of Jane Austen’s Emma and brimming with humor and heart, this sweet, frothy debut will be savored by readers.

NOTHING LIKE YOU by Lauren Strasnick

Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 224 pages
Publisher: Simon Pulse (October 20, 2009)

When Holly loses her virginity to Paul, a guy she barely knows, she assumes their encounter is a one-night stand. After all, Paul is too popular to even be speaking to Holly...and he happens to have a long-term girlfriend, Saskia. But ever since Holly's mom died six months ago, Holly has been numb to the world, and she's getting desperate to feel something, anything--so when Paul keeps pursuing her, Holly relents. Paul's kisses are a welcome diversion...and it's nice to feel like the kind of girl that a guy like Paul would choose.

THE MERIDIAN by Amber Kizer

Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 320 pages
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers (August 11, 2009)

Half-human, half-angel, Meridian Sozu has a dark responsibility.

Sixteen-year-old Meridian has been surrounded by death ever since she can remember. As a child, insects, mice, and salamanders would burrow into her bedclothes and die. At her elementary school, she was blamed for a classmate’s tragic accident. And on her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family home—and Meridian’s body explodes in pain.

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she’s a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt’s house in Revelation, Colorado. It’s there that she learns that she is a Fenestra—the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. But Meridian and her sworn protector and love, Tens, face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos.
But things aren't so simple with Saskia around. Paul's real girlfriend is willowy and perfect... and nothing like Holly. To make matters worse, she and Holly are becoming friends. Suddenly the consequences of Holly's choices are all too real, and Holly stands to lose more than she ever realized she had.

September 10th? Where are you going to be?

OK! I know I am always a day late and a dollar short, but HELLO!!! Where was I when these promo picture for Vampire Diaries came out? I have to admit that I have not read this series and am debating because I don't want to be disappointed if the series does not live up to the books i.e. True Blood. Don't get me wrong I love True Blood, but it is so loosely based on the Sookie books that I love. This fact is something that I have accepted and thus can enjoy both as separate entities. So, since I have not read this series by L. J. Smith (yet) I will just enjoy the show. Come September 10th @ 8pm I will be glued to my TV. What can I say...I am a SUCKER for vamps.
OK super HOT promo picture. YOWZA!!

So, are any of you going to watch?? and if you could have any of your favorite reads turned into a tv show, which one would you like to see?

Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Doesn't this sound deliciously amazing? I have been having twitter fun with Julie, Sharon and Khy for a while (when I can remember to get on twitter) and I had no idea about Julie's book until after I met her on twitter. AUTHOR TOURS: SMART CHICKS KICK IT TOUR

Sept 2010 Tour 8 Cities 6 Authors/City All YA Paranormal
Our Tour, Our Way
Author tours are usually organized by the publisher. All we have to do is show up, which is great, but we started thinking maybe we'd like to try something different. Organize our own tour, just the way we want it. Pick the cities. Pick the authors. Organize the events. So, in Sept 2010, we'll do just that.

It's Your Tour, Too
Setting up our own tour is great. But it's not really about us. It's about the readers--getting out and meeting them. We'll be looking for input from readers to help us make this the kind of tour they want, too. And because we can't get to every city, we'll also be setting up a virtual tour component. We're still in the planning stages, but watch this page for more details.

This week the book fairie was very good to me. I have already read one book and am devouring another :)

Dreaming Anastasia by Joy Preble
All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab
(Re)Cycler by Lauren McLaughlin
Diary of a Witness by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Love is a Higher Law by David Levithan
The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
Saving Maddie by Varian Johnson
They Never Came Back by Caroline B. Cooney
Dream Life by Lauren Mechling
Poisoned Honey by Beatrice Gormley

It has been a good week. All the books seem to be excellent reads with great stories. The Body Finder and They Never Came Back are the ones I want to devour first :) YUM!!

Here is a snippet of They Never Came Back by Caroline B. Cooney:

In a busy school cafeteria, a teenage girl is confronted by a classmate who questions her identity. He explains to the students who have crowded around that the girl bears an uncanny resemblance to his cousin, who was taken away by social services five years ago. Her parents abandoned her, fleeing the country after being accused of embezzling millions of dollars. The students are intrigued, but the girl shrugs off the attention as a case of mistaken identity.

As the days pass, however, the boy refuses to relent and even brings his parents in to back him up. But they are not the only adults involved. An FBI agent who has been working the case these past five years believes that whoever this girl is, she can serve as bait to help the FBI capture the fugitives. In this powerful novel that explores the possibility of mistaken identity, the evils of money and greed, and the heartfelt obligations of family and loyalty, Caroline B. Cooney has once again crafted a page-turner that will resonate with readers.

Sounds amazing? Right? I cannot wait to read it.
So What was in your mailbox this week?

REVIEW: CATCHING FIRE by Suzanne Collins

CATCHING FIRE By Suzanne Collins
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 400 pages
Publisher: Scholastic Press (September 1, 2009)

REVIEW YYYYY

Catching Fire continues shortly after The Hunger Games finishes. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are back home in District 12 but things are not all joy for the victors. Katniss receives a visit from the President of the Capitol warning her that he knows all of her secrets, and during the Victory tour that she and Peeta must convince the other districts that their love is real. The president also makes it very clear that Katniss' stunt seems to have sparked the restlessness and discord within the districts towards the capitol and mutiny is not far behind. This is so not a good thing because the last time there was a rebellion, district 13 was obliterated off the face of the earth; forever lost, but not forgotten due to the Hunger Games that were mandated there after to keep its districts submissive. So, as part of the victors tour Katniss and Peeta have their work cut out for them....lest they face the unimaginable consequences.

As Katniss returns back from the tours to find that much has changed in District 12 and although she and her family are in better living quarters it does not mean that life is any easier. Her relationship with Gale is strained, a situation that is pains her but one that she cannot seem to remidy and the minimal freedom that she had before is now forever watched and monitored. Yet, Katniss does not have much time to contemplate these upsetting events before the announcements for the 75th Hunger Games also known as the Quarter Quell, where each 25 years the rules are modified, are made. As you can imagine in true Suzanne Collins style the unthinkable happens and Katniss must decide who and what she is willing to fight for and this time maybe die for.

Catching Fire was so intense and A M A Z I N G that I could not put it down. I was hesitant thinking that this book could not surpass it's predecessor, but I was wrong. I read it in one day, taking it with me on my vacation and actually having to excuse myself from friends and family so that I may savor and finish it. Every chapter seemed to jump out and capture my breath and cause my heart to stop, and each time that I believed that I could not be surprised I was thoroughly and clearly proven wrong. The cliff hanger is so off the charts extreme that even though it is more than a year away I cannot wait for the next book to be published. I need to know what happens next.... NOW!!! Catching Fire is the book to read for 2009.

Angel in Vegas: The Chronicles of Noah Sark
by Norma Howe
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 256 pages
Publisher: Candlewick (November 10, 2009)

Who is Noah Sark, really? And what is he doing in the men’s room at Angelo’s Donut Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada? No use asking him; he doesn’t know. But he’s gambling that an assignment from above will shed some light — after all, a life depends on it! Only master satirist Norma Howe could craft a provocative meditation on free will from blending one (or maybe two) budding teen romances, a psychic fair, a dead frog, a headful of blond curls, and Las Vegas in all its glitz and kitsch (hello, Elvis!) with the dramatic backstory of Princess Diana in Paris. The jackpot? A wild and witty portrait of an unlikely guardian angel on a desperate mission to save a certain unknown girl from a certain unknown disaster.

Why do I want to read this?
1) I love Angels
2) I love Vegas
3) Elvis!!!
It all sounds too cute!! and I gotta check it out

Hardcover: 400 pages

HUSH, HUSH
YYYY1/2

A Sacred Oath, A Fall from Grace, A forbidden love....

Since her father's murder Nora Grey has always felt that someone was watching over her. Little did she know....

Nora and Vee are friends practically attached at the hip, so it was no surprise that they were biology partners in school. Until one day when Coach Mcconaughy decides to "shake things up" and create a new seating chart thus placing Nora next to the transfer student, Patch. Nora cannot seem to feel comfortable around Patch, maybe it is the obsidian depths of his eyes or his oddly shaped tattoo, or even the fact that he seems to know everything about her? She knows that she should stay away from him, her attraction uncharacteristic of her but much to Nora's dismay she is inexorably drawn to him and the feeling is mutual.

Soon, events transpire and she finds herself in perilous situations, making her question her sanity and safety. Then a frightening incident hits too close to home and it is up to Nora to make sense of the mystery and trickery. But will her bravery be enough to save herself as she learns the truth about Patch and his dark past? Can she love someone who is so terrifyingly unpredictable or will it lead to her demise? Falling in love was never easy...

With HUSH, HUSH Becca Fitzpatrick went down an uncharted path to which she took chances, playing upon our fears and our desires with unexpected fervor. This story is unlike anything you have ever read before, dark and sexy, full of danger, excitement and suspense. Every word to be savored for it elicits the most wicked of emotions. I had to read it with all the lights on and yet begged for more when I was finished. I was held captive within it's pages, unwilling to let go.

HUSH, HUSH is a brilliantly crafted nail-biting suspense story, rich in romance that will enrapture audiences, teens and adults alike. A must read for 2009.

This week was a bit slow, but I really need to work on my TBR pile.

BITE ME by Melissa Francis

AJ Ashe isn't your typical seventeen-year-old vampire—as if there is such a thing! She's stuck in the middle of a huge fight between her two BFFs. Her ex-boyfriend—whom she's still totally in love with, by the way—is now her stepbrother. A former classmate—who, um, she may or may not have turned into a vampire—is stalking her. And now, apparently, the fate of humankind lies in her little undead hands.
What ever happened to the good old days, when all a vampire girl had to worry about was the occasional zit and hiding her taste for blood?

Ohhh I cannot wait. I love a good Vampire story. Gena Showalter author of upcoming YA novel Intertwined says that this book is "MADE OF AWESOME"
So, that is my IMMB post for this week. What is in yours?

SOME LOVES ARE MEANT TO BE

OTHERS ARE CURSED.......

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.

Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
