Author Blog Visit with Alexandra Bullen

Today(yesterday, just work with me :)) I have the pleasure of hosting an author blog visit with Alexandra Bullen. I have enjoyed reading her debut novel WISH and she wanted to let us know about the YA books she has enjoyed.

As I’ve written about in the past, I’ve only recently been introduced to many of the great YA books that are out in the world these days, and I have to say that the last few years have been some of the most exciting reading years of my life. Here are a few of the titles that I’ve most loved, and some that I’m looking forward to reading.
BOOKS I’VE READ AND LOVED:
Punkzilla by Adam Rapp: I love books about boys, probably because I spend a lot of time trying to understand what in the world they are thinking. This book was full of great insight, solid and moving writing, and a main character, Jaime, who stayed with me long after I finished the last chapter.
How To Say Goodbye In Robot by Natalie Standiford: I can’t say enough great things about this book. To me it’s the perfect portrayal of real friendship, the friends you don’t know how you end up with, the ones who change your life completely. A truly great love story, without any of the usual clich├ęs.
Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie: This is the book that convinced me that YA could be read and enjoyed by anyone, at any age. It’s just an amazing story, told in a way that is poetic and powerful and at times, hard to take. I read it once and then again, right away. I love it when books make me do that.
BOOKS I CAN’T WAIT TO READ AND LOVE:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: All I can say is I can’t BELIEVE I still haven’t read this book. And now there’s a sequel? How embarrassing.
The Last Summer of the Death Warriors by Francisco X. Stork: This is the new one by Francisco Stork and I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of it recently. Marcelo in the Real World was another one of my favorite new finds, and this one sounds just as compelling.
Will Grayson/Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan: Along with the rest of the reading universe, I am eagerly anticipating this joint effort from John Green and David Levithan. What a cool idea, and sounds like a great story, too.

Thank you Alexandra for visiting The Ravenous Reader blog, Alex’s next stop on her blog tour is at http://www.greenbeanteenqueen.com/ on January 20 (TODAY), where she’ll be answering a few questions.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
