Waiting on Wednesday: HUNGER by Jackie Morse Kessler

“Thou art the Black Rider. Go thee out unto the world.”

Lisabeth Lewis is seventeen, anorexic...
and the new Famine of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

HUNGER
by Jackie Morse Kessler

Coming October 2010 from Harcourt Graphia

Lisabeth Lewis has a black steed, a set of scales, and a new job: she’s been appointed Famine. How will an anorexic seventeen-year-old girl from the suburbs fare as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

Traveling the world on her steed gives Lisa freedom from her troubles at home: her constant battle with hunger, and her struggle to hide it from the people who care about her. But being Famine forces her to go places where hunger is a painful part of everyday life, and to face the horrifying effects of her phenomenal power. Can Lisa find a way to harness that power — and the courage to battle her own inner demons?

**Sorry for not having the book cover, but it isn't out yet. I could not resist posting it. I met Heather Brewer last Friday and she could not stop talking about it**

Sounds like a very different take on the apocalypose and eating disorders. Thanks for sharing!

My choice for todays WoW post is a book called The Thief Taker's Apprentice.

I almost missed the name, Jackie Morse Kessler. This is cool, because she is Jackie Kessler of Helle's Belles fame, and Black and White. I'm looking forward to her new YA book Only 8 more months to wait.

I didn't a waiting on wednesday post that kind of turned into a rant. Oops

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
