ABOUT THE BOOK:

Sixteen-year-old Miranda Merchant is great at science...and not so great with boys. After major drama with her (now ex) boyfriend, she's happy to be spending the summer on small, mysterious Selkie Island, helping her mother sort out her late grandmother's estate.

On the lush, beautiful island, Miranda finds new friends and a community with a mystical history, presenting her with facts her logical, scientific mind can't make sense of. She also meets Leo, who challenges everything she thought she knew about boys, romance...and reality.

Is Leo hiding something? Or is he something that she never could have imagined?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Aimee Friedman is the New York Times bestselling author of several books for young adults, including South Beach, French Kiss, Hollywood Hills, A Novel Idea, and, most recently, The Year My Sister Got Lucky. Born and raised in Queens, New York, Aimee attended the Bronx High School of Science, but she always wanted to be a writer, never a scientist. Though she does not know how to swim, she loves living on the island of Manhattan, where she also works as a book editor

the perfect place for me to read is when I go visit my family in Jamaica, I stay with my cousin and she stays up in the hills, so when I go on her veranda in back, you can see most of jamaica. So peacefull, I went last summer and it was so relaxing especially when it rained. That's when I read and it was perfect.

My favorite place for summer reading is in my living room on the comfy sofa, but at a specific time! I love reading just as the sun goes down because the house gets a little quieter and it also gets a bit cooler. So excited for this contest!

My favorite place to read in the summer is at a very small hotel on Cape Cod. On the grounds, there are two old swinging benches next to a small body of water that are absolutely perfect for reading. For even more perfection, I read there either early in the morning or early in the evening, when the grounds are at their most quiet.

My family travels a lot in the summer, so I find myself curled up in the backseat with a stack of books and some iced tea. I'll start reading in Virginia, and when I look up we'll be in North Carolina or Maine or New Jersey. When we're staying somewhere, I like to read on the beach, or somewhere where I can see the ocean. I have this awesome portable chair (it's called a 'crazy creek') that I can plop down ANYWHERE and it is soooo cozy. <3

My fave summer reading spot (other than the beach) is the couch in our family room. It's a great spot under skylights and in front of doorwalls that lead out to the deck. It's not as comfortable as my bed, which means I'm less tempted to fall asleep while reading.

lostinbelieving wrote: June 14, 2010 at 2:13 PM

Oooh, the cover of Sea Change is really cool ! The books look so good :D

An awesome summer reading spot is my trampoline. It's nice to sit out when it warm & cool at the same time and read right before it's really dark out. There's enough light to read the text but dark enough out to see the fire flies light up the world around you ! And it's also really nice to have some music playing. The trampoline can be really comfortable !

Thanks for this awesome contest!

My favorite place for summer reading is a couch in the living room. It is directly in front of huge windows that I can open and read by the sunlight. It's all within distance of seeing my ferrets run around. My two favorite things combined: reading and ferrets. =)

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
