I cannot begin to tell you how long I have waited for this book to reach my greedy, greedy hands. I petted it and hugged it to my chest. I was the most happy girl. I had what I wanted and that was that. Then as I begin to read this story I was taken on an adventure of the mind, body and yes...spirit.
Richelle Mead has outdone herself with SPIRIT BOUND, for the books in this series seem to only get better and better, unlike others that tend to disappoint you no matter which (house or legacy) it comes from. I could not believe that she could make things more exciting and amazing, yet every time--I am surprised and am left wanting more, more and more. I cannot wait until DECEMBER!!!! ahhh the torture!
If you following the series you know that in the previous VA installment Rose failed in her mission to kill the man she loved and returned back to the Vampire Academy. She was allowed to finish her studies and then graduate with her class and become a full fledged guardian. SPIRIT BOUND picks up at that juncture with Rose on the cusp of a new life and Dimitri sending "love letters" that gives Rose the chills but in the wrong way. Life has moved on for Rose but in the forefront of her mind she knows she has yet another mission to accomplish and this time she enlists the help of her friend(s). As Rose attempts mission impossible she encounters someone she did not expect and soon a terrible mess is made and the blood is on her hands. If this isn't enough she also has to deal with the trappings of court life, lost love, crime and punishment. It all seems like a bad, bad dream but it is nothing new to Rose Hathaway especially when impossible magic happens and instead of it being everything she could have wanted it becomes a pain like no other. Rose will not have much time to dwell in this sadness because she has an unknown enemy at court and she will have to keep her wits about her or she could loose her head....
OK!!! can I tell you that this book rocked my socks. It truly did, no joke, no lie. I waited a long time for SPIRIT BOUND and it did not disappoint. I was totally on board for this ride and loved every minute of it and this is the reason I love paranormal books. I loved being taken on an adventure of romance, intrigue and stunning combat scenes combined with crucial elements of surprise and wonder all wrapped up in a story about vampires that is original and compelling. I also adore this story's heroine--Rose Hathaway is a kick-ass female that makes mistakes that we can all understand and sympathise with, she is tough and loyal to those she loves and that makes her a deadly weapon. When Rose sets her mind to it you cannot help but cheer her on even though you may cringe at the results, at least you can keep reading and not want to stake yourself because the story is so out there that you would rather mame yourself then read anymore.
So, if your a fan of the VA series then you positively have to keep reading for you will be amazed and if you haven't read the series before..."what are you waiting for?" It is better than many paranormal YA series that are out there and you cannot go wrong if you love vampires.
