Author Interview and Contest with Kimberly Derting

Today I have the honor of having Kimberly Derting for an interview on my blog. I am in awe because I find her books to be some of best reads around. Last year she debuted with THE BODY FINDER and this year, in fact tuesday, YEAH!! her newest novel DESIRES OF THE DEAD will hit the newsstands and you will be amazed, because it is that good. So, without further delay, come and join us for an interview and when we are done I have a few goodies to share with a few lucky commenters.

RR: What inspired you to write this series and what research did you work on to accomplish your story?

KD: Im not sure that I could point to any one thing that was the sole inspiration for The Body Finder, but I have to give some credit to my husband for providing the initial spark, when he said: "what if there was kid who could find dead bodies?" Of course in his mind, he practically co-wrote it with me. HA!

As far as research, I did spend time interviewing members of our local and fire and police departments, to be sure I had the facts right. Since they were also friends, it was interesting (and kind of strange) to see them slip into their professional roles.
RR: What do you want your readers to take away from your book?

KD:honestly, at the end of the day, what I really want is for readers to feel connected to the characters and to have fun reading my books? Oh, and don't talk to strangers.

RR: What are you in the process of writing next?

KD: If only I could tell you! Stay tuned, though, lots of secret stuff will be announced very soon! (RR: Gah! what a tease but I love it)

RR: What was your favorite book that you read as a teen and why?

KD: THE SHINING. to me, Stephen King, is the master of horror, and I really wanted to scare people the way he did. Of course, the girl in me really likes kissing scenes too! (RR: and so do I Y)

RR: What is on your nightstand now?

KD: A clock that is set 20minutes too fast and a never-ending stack of books that includes: Angelfire, Across the Universe, Blood Red Road, and The Gathering.

RR: With all the YA Novels that are coming out this year, besides DESIRES OF THE DEAD, what are you most eager to read?

KD: Hmm, I'll probably never catch up with ALL of the books I want to read, but I've heard some really good things about The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab. I'm definitely intrigued.

THE END

Thank you, Kimberly. It was an honor to have you here. I wish you great success with you next novel, DESIRES OF THE DEAD that is due out Tuesday and I know everyone cannot wait to read it.

For those readers that love this series I have a special treat for you. I have posters, book markers, and more that I want to share with you (courtesy of Kimberly Derting, THANK YOU). One lucky winner will recieve a signed book of THE BODY FINDER and DESIRES OF THE DEAD. All you have to do is comment on my blog and give Kimberly some love and let her know how much you enjoy her series and want to read DESIRES OF THE DEAD. It is an easy contest for some amazing books.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Go spread the Y
Winners will be selected 2/28/11 open to US entrants only

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
