Nastasya has lived for hundreds of years, but for some reason, life never seems to get any better. She left her spoiled, rich girl life to find peace at River's Edge, a safe haven for wayward immortals. There, she learned to embrace River's Edge, despite som drama involving the sexy Reyn, who she wants but won't allow herself to have. But just as she's getting comfortable, her family's ties to dark magick force her to leave.

She falls back into her old, hard partying ways, but will her decision lead her into the hands of a dark immortal? Or will it be her first step to embracing the darkness within her?

My Thoughts:

It is always a bit scary to wait on the second novel in a series. You never know how things will work out. Will it be as remarkable as it's predecessor? or leave you wanting. DARKNESS FALLS was the much awaited sequel to IMMORTAL BELOVED and I am beyond happy at how much it was worth waiting for.

As I returned to the Immortal world that Cate Tiernan has so ingenuously created I was treated to moments of vivid flashback imagery as Nastasya tries to cope with everyday life at Rivers Edge. Her past continues to haunt her as she proclaims to move forward and shed her "darkness". It is a choice that she believes will help her adjust to her new life but soon a string of unfortunate events cause her to question her choice. It isn't long before an old friend crosses her path and her previous habits become an easy refuge but her decision lead her out of the darkness or into deeper trouble?

I truly enjoy this series because of the well detailed deja vu moments that Nastasya experiences. Each episode bringing us a deeper understanding of who she is and why she acts out as she does. I am always in awe and left wanting for more as each scene keeps getting better and better. Nastasya aka "Nasty" is such a treat to read because her inner voice is tinged with sarcasm, the rough edges of her past still cling to her thoughts providing the comic relief that balances this darker storyline. The other characters in this series are diverse, well fleshed out and memorable and those housed at Rivers Edge have a unique hold on me that makes me want to know more about them.

The only fault that comes to mind is the villain in this book. It was an obvious choice and not really a much of a surprise despite the tension that was created for the crescendo building "Ahh ha" moment. That being said I was still engrossed in the story and only wanted more....even a little more romance between Nastasya and Reyn would have been nice. Maybe that is yet to come in the next installment that I am now eagerly awaiting. Ahhh the torture that I so willingly succumb to.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
