In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die…or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

My Thoughts:

Holy Amazeballs Batman!!! Just when I thought that I could not read another Vampire story without wanting to scream bloody murder. Then Julie Kagawa writes THE IMMORTAL RULES and I am head over heels back "in love" with Vampire genre again and am eagerly awaiting it's sequel.

THE IMMORTAL RULES is an epic story that is well visualized and intense. While showcasing  Allison Sekemoto a memorably reluctant Vampire that I have not witnessed since Louis from Interview with a Vampire. Julie Kagawa has taken the traditional vampire lore and turned it on it's head by creating a world that is intensely riveting, unique and frightening. Just think of best mixture of  Day Breakers, Mad Max and The Walking Dead with added fangs and you have THE IMMORTAL RULES.

I love the fact that the world created for this story is explained quite well and without question in the the first few pages and you have a good sense of it's main character Allison Sekemoto, by the end of the first chapter. Yet, despite it's clear intention you cannot imagine what will happen next and when the unthinkable happens you are left...like whoa!!! That did not just happen, so what is going to happen next? and you will plow through this book trying to find out. It will consume you in a good way and you will not be disappointed, believe me. The twists and turns that this story will take you on is insane and you just have to buckle your seat belts and go for the ride.

The only thing that I can complain about is that I wanted a bit more romantic tension. I can never seem to get enough of them.  I wanted things to progress further but I am hopefull that that may be resolved in the next book. Either way I will gladly read whatever Julie Kagawa has for us because she is amazing and she knows how to write a story that makes us all want to run to our friends and say "YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK, NOW!!" yes, it is that good.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
