Rebel Heart Blog Tour: REVIEW and Giveaway

DUST LANDS: REBEL HEART
By Moira Young
In stores on October 30, 2012

About Rebel Heart
Nothing is certain and no one is safe in the second book in the highly praised Dust Lands trilogy, which MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog called “better than The Hunger Games.”

It seemed so simple: Defeat the Tonton, rescue her kidnapped brother, Lugh, and then order would be restored to Saba’s world. Simplicity, however, has proved to be elusive. Now, Saba and her family travel west, headed for a better life and a longed-for reunion with Jack. But the fight for Lugh’s freedom has unleashed a new power in the dust lands, and a formidable new enemy is on the rise.

What is the truth about Jack? And how far will Saba go to get what she wants? In this much-anticipated follow-up to the riveting Blood Red Road, a fierce heroine finds herself at the crossroads of danger and destiny, betrayal and passion.

Review:

REBEL HEART is the much awaited sequel to Moira Young's ground breaking debut, BLOOD READ ROAD, and it is just as spectacular. Readers who enjoy action-adventure, dystopians, and romance inter-weaved novels will simply devour this novel because it is just that good.

REBEL HEART begins with Saba and her trusty gang heading towards the Big Water to meet up with Jack. When they arrive things are different somehow, Jack is no longer the same, something has changed him and she cannot fathom what.  Yet, he is not the only one that is different, Lugh isn't the same person Saba remembered him to be either. And Saba, while maintaining her difficult nature has seemed to soften a bit around the edges.

Although this novel had a slow start, I am so very pleased that Moira Young's newest endeavor didn't fall into the tragic sequel oblivion. It is only a testament to her skill as to how her world was brilliantly enriched and expanded, thus giving her beloved characters added depth and flesh. And despite it's slow beginning the story soon picked up it's pace as the plot became a bit more complex, leaving me slightly  bewildered yet intrigued. The chaos that surrounded the storyline was intoxicating and riveting and I only wanted to keep reading, not wanting to stop until I reached it's veritable conclusion.

REBEL HEART simply stunned me, leaving me emotionally spent. Being reunited with some of my most favorite literary characters; Jack, Saba, Lugh and Tommo was a joy, but to witness them go through so much heartache, nearly broke my heart. I was left biting my nails throughout this story and when I read the very last word I was stunned speechless.  I could not comprehend what had just occurred and as I tried to make sense of it all I could only sit in stupefied silence. WOW! Moira Young really knows how to hit you where it hurts.

Just like with it's predecessor, Moira Young completes REBEL HEART with enough frayed ends to keep you on tender hooks, craving for more, yet giving it enough closure to keep you wholly satisfied. REBEL HEART is one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading this year for it was was astonishing, breathtaking and utterly captivating. It is impeccable story telling in it's purest form and worth every moment spent reading it.

You need to read it now!

About Blood Red Road
Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.

Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
