Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….

My Thoughts:

POISON PRINCESS is nothing short of amazing. Kresley Cole's newest YA creation is a perfect mix of adventure, mystery and romance based on the major arcana of the tarot deck.

This novel starts off with a wicked prologue that initially made my heart flutter from it's mysteriously romantic tipped edge but it quickly changed to heart pounding fear as the story veered into dark territory that completely surprised and intrigued me.

Evie is one of the principle characters in POISON PRINCESS, a privileged teen that continually experiences harrowing visions of destruction that make her question her very sanity. Jack is the gorgeous bad boy, full of attitude and excellent at pushing all of Evie's buttons.  Together they embark on a mission that Evie believes will provide the answers to her hallucinations. Along the way they encounter zombies, crazed militia and some very frightening situations but none disturb Evie more than coming face to face with the characters from her visions. While she tries to decipher these occurrences and keep their origins to herself her tenuous relationship with Jack suffers, but Evie does not know who to trust? Should she trust the boy that has been her protector or those that she shares a special connection with? Only time will tell and it will surprise you.

I cannot rave about POISON PRINCESS enough because it completely took me by storm. I picked this book to listen to and I could not seem to do anything else until I finished it. Kresley Cole did such an amazing job of creating a unique and intriguing world that was fast paced and totally mesmerizing. I was not familiar with the tarot deck and it's major arcana prior to reading this book and yet now I am obsessed. What also makes this story pop and sizzle is it's memorable characters. I really enjoyed witnessing Evie evolve as the story progressed and who could not adore Jack, grrrrr...I always like the sexy bad boys and then throw in his creole banter and I am gone, gone, gone. Together these two characters burn the page with their smokin' chemistry and I only wanted more. Now I have to wait until the next story comes out and next year is too long.

If you are a fan of an adventurous read that is wicked scary and sexy while being original and fresh then you have to read POISON PRINCESS by Kresley Cole. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
