Gripping original stories of dystopian worlds from nine New York Times bestselling authors, edited by Melissa Marr and Kelley Armstrong

The world is gone, destroyed by human, ecological, or supernatural causes. Survivors dodge chemical warfare and cruel gods; they travel the reaches of space and inhabit underground caverns. Their enemies are disease, corrupt corporations, and one another; their resources are few, and their courage is tested.

Powerful original dystopian tales from nine bestselling authors offer bleak insight, prophetic visions, and precious glimmers of light among the shards and ashes of a ruined world.

Stories from:
Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, Kami Garcia, Nancy Holder, Melissa Marr, Beth Revis, Veronica Roth, Carrie Ryan, Margaret Stohl.
Haley's Review:

Shards & Ashes is a collection of 9 short stories. Each story has a strong main character who must achieve or overcome the challenges they are faced with in life. These 9 stories all take place in dark, futuristic, apocalyptic type worlds.

As unique as each story was they all seemed to have a similar theme. The theme being finding away to survive in a world that has seemed to turn against them. In one story the main character has to deal with betrayal and learn that the ones you think you can trust shouldn't always be trusted. In another story the main character lives in a place were children go missing daily. She never thinks it could happen to her or that the person they take is her little sister, and the only family she has left. Now she must find the people who took her and why, before it's to late. She discovers the hidden horrors of a life she thought she knew and learns just how disturbed and cruel the human mind can be.

These stories kept me at the edge of my seat and left me on my knee's begging for more long after the story ended. If I could have my way I would suggest to the authors that they expand these stories into hole books. I promise that once you open this book you will be hooked onto adventures with the characters and never want to leave.

Haley, your review is awesome. I will have to bring my copy up to the top of my pile of books. All of the authors involved in this project are favorites of mine so I am most eager to divine into this novel.

I would love to see what you have to say :)

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
